چکیده
Title of Thesis: DEVELOPMENTAL MILESTONES, CHILDHOOD BEHAVIOR AND SCHIZOPHRENIA-SPECTRUM SYMPTOMATOLOGY: AN INVESTIGATION OF PSYCHOMETRICALLY IDENTIFIED PUTATIVE SCHIZOTYPES Courtney Brynn Forbes, Master of Arts, 2006 Directed By: Professor Jack J. Blanchard Department of Psychology The present study assessed retrospectively rated childhood abnormalities of development and behavior in individuals identified as having increased risk for schizophrenia using the psychometric high-risk paradigm. It was hypothesized that social anhedonics would have significantly more childhood behavior problems and developmental milestone delays than controls, and that anhedonics with greater childhood problems and developmental delays would display elevated levels of schizophrenia-spectrum symptoms. Examining proband reports, social anhedonics endorsed greater internalizing, thought, and total problems than controls. Analysis of mother reports revealed ratings of increased internalizing problems among social anhedonics. Mother ratings exhibited a trend toward significance for delayed walking in the social anhedonic group (d=.59). For social anhedonics, proband and mother rated childhood behavior problems correlated with clinician-rated schizophreniaspectrum symptoms, assessed at age 18. These findings indicate the presence of childhood behavior problems in social anhedonics and suggest an association between these early behavior problems and current clinical symptoms within the putative highrisk group.

متن کاملRevisiting the blurry boundaries of schizophrenia: spectrum disorders in psychometrically identified schizotypes.
Certain Personality Disorders (PDs) have been found to be present in the prodromal phase of schizophrenia at a higher rate than other personality disorders. Although schizotypal, paranoid, and schizoid PDs are traditionally viewed as spectra for schizophrenia, research suggests that avoidant PD should be included in this group (e.g., Fogelson et al., 2007). The present study examines whether a ...
متن کاملAnxiety and depression symptoms in psychometrically identified schizotypy.
The neurodevelopmental vulnerability for schizophrenia appears to be expressed across a dynamic continuum of adjustment referred to as schizotypy. This model suggests that nonpsychotic schizotypic individuals should exhibit mild and transient forms of symptoms seen in full-blown schizophrenia. Given that depression and anxiety are reported to be comorbid with schizophrenia, the present study ex...
متن کاملVerbal creativity and schizotypal personality in relation to prefrontal hemispheric laterality: a behavioral and near-infrared optical imaging study.
Although anecdotal and correlational results have suggested a reliable relationship between creativity and psychosis, few studies have examined this relationship using empirical methods. In addition, little is known about the neural substrates of creative thinking. We investigated the creative thinking process in relation to schizotypal personality, schizophrenia and prefrontal hemispheric late...
متن کاملCognitive and oculomotor performance in subjects with low and high schizotypy: implications for translational drug development studies
The development of drugs to improve cognition in patients with schizophrenia is a major unmet clinical need. A number of promising compounds failed in recent clinical trials, a pattern linked to poor translation between preclinical and clinical stages of drug development. Seeking proof of efficacy in early Phase 1 studies in surrogate patient populations (for example, high schizotypy individual...
